Developed by Nippon Yusen (Japan's largest shipping company) and Nippon Oil Corp, the vessel is capable of generating 10% of energy used while the ship is docked with its 328 solar panels on the top deck. The panels generate 40 kilowatts of power and installed on the ship's car-carrier, which is capable of carrying 6,400 cars. It's likely that NYK line will not be able to recover the investment of 1.68 million dollars for setting up the panels for a long time. However, NYK line recognizes the need to invest in environmentally friendly, sustainable way of carrying goods and raw materials over the ocean for the future.
