MINI Sales Figures March 2011

Apparently, MINIs sold quite well last month. March 2011 sales was 6,087 cars, up 68.5% compared to same month last year, making it the best March. Year to date for 2011 is up 41.4% versus 2010 (12,341 vs 8.728)

It's notable that after a slow start of averaging less than 1,000 per month since its launch in December, MINI sold 1,729 new Countryman (Yes! The car I am getting!), accounting for nearly 30% of the total MINI sales in March. It is probably due to the combination of more interest and awareness of the new Countryman and larger availability of inventory at dealer lots.

MINI is also quite aggressive this year with attractive lease, financing, and free package deals on its existing line up. However, considering the incentives, the sales on the models except Countryman and Hardtop (18% up YTD)  is quite lukewarm. ( YTD sales excluding Countryman 9,040 vs 8,728 ) It also seems the new Countryman might be taking sales away from its previous maxi MINI: Clubman.

It will be interesting to see how the sales ratio unfold as Countryman becomes more popular.
