1. What is name of the car carrier vessel that carried your MINI?
Augita Leader.
2. When was your MINI delivered?
Ordered 28 March, arrived Port Hueneme, CA on 12 May, and took delivery on 2 June 2011. It seems that the car “got lost” at the BMW/MINI Vehicle Distribution Center in Oxnard, plus driving lamps were installed at that location.
3. "Make your own" or "I want it now"?
We definitely made our own on the MINI web site. Following a local search, none were available with a beige leather interior—black sells and that’s what the LA dealers order.
4. What drew you to MINI Countryman?
Form and fit quality, smooth and quiet ride, suspension tuned for run flat tires, 4 doors, and comfortable back seat.
5. What other cars did you consider?
MINI Cooper S Clubman – Hampton Package.
6. What car did you drive before?
2007 MINI Cooper S Hardtop. Purchased in Hawaiian Islands (Kauai) and a perfect “Island Car” with it’s small size, superior handling, and great gas mileage—averaged 35 MPG. Would not have “Sport Suspension” and run flat tires on a MINI again, as it created a VERY firm ride (that is being kind).
7. Is this your first MINI or second, third, fourth, etc?
Second. The first was the 2007 MINI Cooper S Hardtop.
8. What is your favorite part/feature/function of your MINI?
Smooth effortless shifting, accessible back seat, and the Harmon Kardon system with Sirius satellite radio.
9. What do you not like about your MINI?
Radio and phone user interface, and being unable to adjust the right outside mirror sufficiently to see the curb when parallel parking.
10. What do your family and friends say about your MINI?
“Wow, a maxi Mini.”
“It looks like a Mini on steroids.”
“ What a beautiful interior.”
“That’s a Mini?”
11. What is your favorite story about your MINI?
In progress….
12. What is your favorite place to drive your MINI?
San Gabriel Canyon Rd (Rte 39) from Azusa to Falling Springs, CA in the Angeles National Forest. (To be continued….)
13. Who gets to drive your MINI other than yourself?
My wife - Yolanda.
14. Any name for your MINI?
“Grasshopper.”
15. One word best describes your MINI.
Smooth.
16. Any Regrets?
Not getting the MINI Connected.
17. Anything else you'd like to share?
It’s great having a classy yet sporty looking bi-colored car—iridescent green in the sunlight; then black at night.
18. What options/packages does your MINI have?
Cooper S with 6 speed manual transmission
Chrome Line Exterior
Black driving lamps
Checkerboard outside mirror caps
Premium package
Sport package with 18” silver Turbo Fan wheels
Polar Beige leather seating and color line
Center armrest
Bluetooth and USB/iPod Adapter
19. Any mod/tuning?
None
20. What’s your plan next?
Drive entire length of Route 66 from Duarte, CA to Chicago, IL and back.
