Yey~~ After a week of wait in "On Order" status, my Countryman is going into production very soon. "Scheduled for production" means you now cannot make any changes to your order as you are now given a VIN number and your vehicle is ready to go through the 'birth canal', fancy way of saying production line. Make sure to call 866-Ask-MINI everyday for more accurate status update.
MINI lets you to track your MINI once you place an order. While the information is somewhat vague, you can at least see the progress from order to delivery. Once you place an order with your MINI dealership, you will be given a production number. If dealer is using its existing order slot (in most cases), it is immediately available. If not, MINI send you an email within a few days with your production number.
With the production number, you can create an account at MINI Owners lounge website (ol.miniusa.com) They are some other nifty stuff in Owners lounge. I haven't looked into much, but there are many features and useful resources you have access to. And most importantly, you can start tracking your MINI! The site seems to lag a few days behind its actual status. More up-to-date and accurate tracking info are available when you call 1-866-ASK-MINI. (It even told me that my MINI is in the paintshop! How cool is that!)
I can imagine a lot of work must have put in to enable the whole tracking process, but now, only if I can see the car being built through live webcam!
